About Nunam Iqua Airport

Nunam Iqua Airport, formerly Sheldon Point Airport, is a state-owned public-use airport serving the small Yup'ik community of Nunam Iqua on Alaska's Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. The airport has operated since June 1964 and functions as a vital lifeline for supply and commuter transport, particularly in winter when barge deliveries are not possible.

The airport is located less than a mile south of the village. It has one gravel runway, 2/20, measuring 3,016 by 60 feet, along with two designated water landing areas for floatplanes. There is no control tower or commercial passenger terminal, and operations are generally coordinated by air taxi operators, charter flights, and private pilots.

Nunam Iqua is not connected to Alaska's road network, so air travel is an important link to regional hubs and nearby communities such as Emmonak, Alakanuk, Kotlik, and Mountain Village. Local movement between the airport and the village is short and usually arranged by residents, ATV, or on foot.

Because the airport is small and unattended, travelers should confirm arrival and departure arrangements with their operator in advance. Despite limited infrastructure, the airport provides essential access for residents, freight, mail, and emergency services in this remote coastal region.
