About Nukus International Airport
Nukus International Airport is the main air gateway to Nukus and the Republic of Karakalpakstan in northwestern Uzbekistan. It connects the region with Tashkent, Moscow and other destinations and serves as the starting point for visitors to the Savitsky Museum, the Aral Sea and the Ustyurt Plateau.
The airport traces its origins to a small airfield established in the 1960s for regional flights. A major reconstruction in 2004 introduced a modern terminal and an extended runway, international status followed in 2011, and further runway and navigation upgrades were completed in 2017–2018.
Located a few kilometres north of central Nukus, the airport is normally reached in about 10–15 minutes by taxi or private transfer, with limited city bus and marshrutka services also available.
Despite its compact size, the terminal provides essential services including a café, shops, a VIP lounge, Wi-Fi, charging points, currency exchange and assistance facilities, making it a practical entry point for travellers exploring western Uzbekistan.
