Urgench International Airport is the main airport serving Urgench, Khiva and the wider Khorezm region in western Uzbekistan. It offers domestic and international connections and is the closest air gateway for visitors heading to Khiva's historic old town.
The airport was commissioned in 1960 and granted international status in 1992. It lies about 5 km from central Urgench and roughly 35 km north of Khiva, with taxi, bus and private transfer options linking the airport to both cities.
Passenger services are handled through a single terminal used for domestic and international flights. A modernisation programme involving Incheon International Airport Corporation is expanding the airfield, adding aircraft stands and a new taxiway, and upgrading border, retail, lounge and medical facilities.
The airport's location makes it a practical entry point for exploring Khorezm, including Khiva's UNESCO-listed old town and the surrounding oasis towns of the region.
