About Nuiqsut Airport

Nuiqsut Airport is a public-use airport in Nuiqsut, a small Inupiat community in Alaska's North Slope Borough on the Colville River Delta. Because Nuiqsut has no year-round road connection, the airport provides the community's only reliable year-round transportation link for passengers, freight and essential services.

The airport has a single gravel runway, designated 05/23, measuring about 4,589 feet by 100 feet, along with a small passenger terminal and apron. Scheduled regional flights are operated by Wright Air Service to Utqiagvik and Deadhorse, connecting residents and visitors to larger hubs and onward travel.

Located on the southern edge of the village, the airport is only a short drive from homes, the store and other local services. Ground movement is simple, with local vehicle transport, taxis or prearranged pickups used to reach destinations within Nuiqsut.

Facilities are basic but functional, including a waiting area, restrooms, an automated weather observation system and runway lighting that supports operations in Alaska's long winters. Travelers should plan ahead, as dining, shopping and other commercial services are not available at the airport itself.
