Northwest Alabama Regional Airport is the primary commercial airport serving Muscle Shoals and the Shoals region of northwest Alabama, including the neighboring cities of Florence, Sheffield and Tuscumbia. Located in Colbert County and owned by Colbert and Lauderdale Counties, the public-use airport acts as a convenient gateway to the Tennessee River Valley.
The airport opened in 1940 and has since served as a regional connection point for the area. It operates from a single terminal building with a compact layout designed for efficient passenger processing, and currently hosts scheduled passenger service through Contour Airlines to Charlotte Douglas International Airport under the Essential Air Service program.
Situated about one mile (2 km) east of downtown Muscle Shoals, the airport is easily reached from US Highway 20 (Alternate US 72).
