About Northeast Kingdom International Airport
Northeast Kingdom International Airport is a public-use general aviation airport serving Newport and Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. It sits near the southern shore of Lake Memphremagog and close to the Canadian border, making it a convenient entry point for private and business flights into northern Vermont.
The airport began as Newport State Airport in the mid-1940s and was renamed in 2015 during a period of investment in the region. A later runway extension created one of the longest runways in Vermont, improving access for larger private aircraft and supporting the airport's role as a regional aviation hub.
Located about 3 miles (5 km) southwest of Newport in Coventry, Orleans County, the airport has no scheduled commercial airline service and instead focuses on general aviation, private aircraft, and charter travel. Customs landing rights allow eligible international flights to clear entry at the airport by prior arrangement.
The facility includes a small terminal building, an on-site fixed-base operator, fuel services, hangars, and aircraft parking. Road connections from Newport and surrounding communities make it relatively simple to continue to the lake, nearby resorts, and destinations across the Northeast Kingdom.
