About Norfolk International Airport
Norfolk International Airport is the primary commercial airport serving Norfolk, the Hampton Roads region of Coastal Virginia and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Opened in 1938 as Norfolk Municipal Airport, it was renamed Norfolk International Airport in 1976 when federal customs facilities were added.
Located about 6 miles (10 km) northeast of downtown Norfolk and just east of Interstate 64, the airport provides year-round and seasonal nonstop service to major U.S. cities as well as international routes such as Cancún and San Juan. It is a focus city for Breeze Airways and connects travelers to hundreds of destinations worldwide.
The passenger complex combines a main terminal, opened in 1974, with two concourses and a separate Arrivals Terminal that opened in 2002 and is linked by a pedestrian bridge. The Arrivals Terminal houses baggage claim, rental car counters and ground transportation in one convenient location.
