About Norðfjörður Airport
Norðfjörður Airport is a small regional airport serving Neskaupstaður, a town on the Norðfjörður fjord in eastern Iceland. It supports local connectivity, medical flights, and private or charter aviation rather than regular scheduled passenger services. Located about 3–4 km from central Neskaupstaður, the airport has a single asphalt runway and one small terminal building. In 2017 the runway was resurfaced, improving its role as a medical and emergency aviation facility for the Eastfjords. The airport is reached by road from Neskaupstaður, with taxis, pre-booked private transfers, chauffeur services and rental cars offering onward travel around the Norðfjörður area and the wider East Iceland region. Facilities at the airport are intentionally basic, with the main services for travellers available in Neskaupstaður. Despite its small scale, Norðfjörður Airport remains an important local gateway and emergency access point for this remote part of Iceland.
