About Niamtougou International Airport
Niamtougou International Airport is the main airport serving northern Togo and the Kara Region. Opened in 1981, it acts as an international gateway for the north of the country and is Togo's second-largest airport after Lomé.
The airport is located in Baga, about 4 km northwest of Niamtougou town centre and roughly 26 km north of Kara, directly on Route Nationale 1. It has a single asphalt runway of around 2,500 metres that can accommodate wide-body aircraft such as the DC 10-30.
Traffic currently consists mainly of government, military and private flights, although the airport retains a passenger terminal, customs, immigration and a freight terminal for international operations. Passenger amenities are limited but functional.
Onward travel is by road along Route Nationale 1, connecting the airport with Niamtougou, Kara and other towns in northern Togo, as well as routes toward the Burkina Faso border.
