About Newport State Airport
Newport State Airport is a state-owned public-use airport serving Newport and Newport County, Rhode Island. Opened in 1947, it is operated by the Rhode Island Airport Corporation and located in Middletown, roughly 2 miles (about 3.2 km) northeast of central Newport.
The airport functions primarily as a general aviation gateway for private aircraft, business travel and visitors to Newport's year-round attractions. It is particularly convenient for travelers heading to Aquidneck Island, the city's historic waterfront, nearby marinas and coastal communities.
The airfield has two asphalt runways and a small passenger terminal with a lounge and fixed-base operator services, including aviation fuel, aircraft parking, hangars and rental cars. The airport has no control tower, and pilots use its common traffic advisory frequency.
Newport is reached by a short drive from the airport, with taxis, rental cars, private transfers and road connections available for the journey into the city centre and surrounding areas of Aquidneck Island.
