About New York Skyports Inc Seaplane Base
New York Skyports Inc Seaplane Base is a public seaplane facility on Manhattan's East River, serving general aviation seaplane flights to and from New York City. The base traces its history to the 1930s, when a seaplane ramp was built at the foot of East 23rd Street, and it later became part of the Skyport Marina that opened in 1962.
Located between Waterside Plaza and Stuyvesant Cove Park, the facility is the only seaplane base in Manhattan. It operates a water runway in the East River rather than a traditional paved airport, with a docking ramp for boarding and disembarking seaplanes.
Because the base sits directly on Manhattan's East Side waterfront, it offers quick access to Midtown, Lower Manhattan, and the rest of the city by taxi, private transfer, chauffeur service, or rental car. The FDR Drive and local streets connect the base to the wider New York City road network.
Passenger facilities are limited compared with major commercial airports, so travelers should arrange transportation and confirm procedures with their seaplane operator in advance. Despite its compact size, the base remains a convenient waterfront gateway for seaplane travel in the New York area.
