About Naval Air Station Pensacola Forrest Sherman Field

Naval Air Station Pensacola Forrest Sherman Field is an active U.S. Navy airfield located about 6 miles southwest of downtown Pensacola, Florida. Forrest Sherman Field opened in 1954 and forms part of Naval Air Station Pensacola, which has served as a training centre for U.S. naval aviation since 1914. The installation is best known today as the home of the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels.

The airfield does not offer commercial airline services, so travellers flying into the region typically arrive at Pensacola International Airport (PNS) and continue by road. Access to the base is controlled, and visitors without military credentials generally enter through the West Gate on Blue Angel Parkway after presenting approved identification.

Forrest Sherman Field sits close to the Gulf Coast, with Perdido Key, Pensacola Beach and Gulf Breeze within convenient driving distance. Road access via Blue Angel Parkway and nearby highways connects the installation to downtown Pensacola, usually in about 15–25 minutes by car.

Within the base, the National Naval Aviation Museum and the 1859 Pensacola Lighthouse are among the most popular public destinations. The museum offers the Cubi Bar Café, the Flight Deck Store and parking areas, making the station a notable visitor destination as well as a working military airfield.
