About Naval Air Station Corpus Christi
Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, also known as Truax Field, is a U.S. Navy air station located about six miles (10 km) southeast of downtown Corpus Christi, Texas. Commissioned in 1941, the installation has supported naval aviation training and operations for more than eight decades.
The air station is surrounded on three sides by water—Corpus Christi Bay, Oso Bay, and the Laguna Madre—and is home to Training Air Wing Four, supporting pilot training for U.S. Navy and Marine Corps aviators. Its military airfield, assigned the IATA code NGP, handles training flights and base-related air operations rather than scheduled commercial passenger service.
Access to the installation is primarily by road from Corpus Christi and the surrounding Coastal Bend area. Travelers with authorized base business can reach the air station by car, taxi, private transfer, or arranged shuttle.
Because this is an active military installation, access is controlled and passenger amenities differ from those at commercial airports. Nearby Corpus Christi International Airport handles scheduled commercial flights for the region.
