About NAS Fort Worth JRB / Carswell Field

NAS Fort Worth JRB / Carswell Field (FWH) is a joint military airfield that serves Fort Worth and the wider Dallas–Fort Worth region. The installation traces its origins to the early 1940s and later operated as Carswell Air Force Base, a Strategic Air Command bomber base, before reopening in 1994 as the first joint reserve base in the United States.

The base hosts Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Army and Texas Air National Guard units, and its airfield sits next to Lockheed Martin's Fort Worth aeronautics plant, where the F-35 Lightning II is assembled and tested. It has no scheduled commercial airline service; passenger flights are limited to military and government movements handled through a dedicated military passenger terminal.

Located west of downtown Fort Worth near State Highway 183 and Interstate 30, the base is roughly six miles from the city centre and offers convenient road access across Tarrant County. Commercial travelers use Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) or Dallas Love Field (DAL) for scheduled flights, while FWH remains an important military aviation hub for the region.
