About Napakiak Airport
Napakiak Airport is a small state-owned public-use airport serving Napakiak, a Yup'ik community on the north bank of the Kuskokwim River in Alaska's Bethel Census Area. Activated in September 1976 and owned by the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, the airport is an essential air link for this roadless village.
Located immediately west of the village, the airport operates a single gravel runway, 16/34, measuring 3,248 by 60 feet. It mainly supports regional air taxi, charter, cargo and general aviation flights, while nearby Bethel Airport provides the main regional connections to Anchorage and other Alaska communities.
Because Napakiak has no road connection, the airport works together with seasonal river travel, boardwalks, boats and snowmachines. Most visitors continue from the airstrip by pre-arranged local pickup, ATV, boat or snowmachine depending on the season.
Passenger facilities are compact and limited, with no fuel or repair services on site. Travelers should plan ahead and use services in Bethel, about 7 nautical miles (13 km) northeast of the airport.
