About Nakuru Lanet Airport
Nakuru Lanet Airport (NUU), also known as Lanet Military Airstrip, is a civil and military airfield located in the Lanet area east of Nakuru city centre. It sits within a Kenya Defence Forces installation and is being developed to support wider civilian aviation use for Nakuru and the surrounding Great Rift Valley region.
The airfield lies about 10 km east of central Nakuru, with a road journey of roughly 17 km via the main Nakuru–Nairobi road. Its position makes it a useful local access point for Nakuru town, Lake Nakuru National Park and nearby parts of Nakuru County.
A government-led upgrade programme began in late 2020 to improve the runway, taxiways and terminal infrastructure to international standards. The works include planned separate military and civilian terminal areas, a military lounge, air rescue and firefighting facilities, and associated access gates, although much of the project remains in progress.
Because scheduled commercial operations and full passenger facilities are not yet established, travellers using the airfield should confirm arrangements with their operator. Ground access is road-based, with private transfers, taxis, chauffeur services, rental cars and group vehicles providing onward connections to Nakuru and the wider region.
Terminal Overview
Terminals
Nakuru Lanet Airport functions as a single airfield shared by military and civil aviation. The redevelopment plan includes separate military/VIP and civilian terminal areas, but passenger terminal operations remain limited while upgrade works continue.
