Niau Airport (NIU)

Niau Airport is the only airfield serving Niau Atoll, a small coral island in the Tuamotu Archipelago of French Polynesia. It provides the main air link between the atoll and the rest of French Polynesia, with Air Tahiti operating inter-island flights primarily to and from Papeete on Tahiti.

Located about 4 km from the main village of Tupana, the airport sits within the commune of Fakarava. It has a single asphalt runway, 06/24, and a small passenger terminal handling a modest number of domestic arrivals and departures throughout the year.

Because Niau is a remote atoll, ground transport is simple: travellers typically continue from the airport to guesthouses, village stays and lagoon access points by pre-arranged transfer or local vehicle. There is no public bus network, so onward travel is usually organised in advance.

With limited passenger facilities, the airport functions mainly as a practical arrival and departure point rather than a major commercial hub, and it plays an important role in keeping the atoll connected for residents and visitors.
