Murray Field Airport (EKA)

Murray Field Airport is a county-owned public-use airport serving Eureka and Humboldt County on California's North Coast. Located about three miles east of the Eureka city center, it functions primarily as a general aviation gateway for private, charter and cargo traffic rather than scheduled commercial passenger service.

The airfield opened in April 1940 and took on a military role during World War II, when Army antisubmarine patrols operated from the field and the Navy used the Eureka area for seaplane and blimp facilities. After the war, the site became the Eureka municipal airport and has remained a public aviation facility.

The airport has a single asphalt runway, Runway 12/30, measuring about 3,011 feet, and no passenger terminal complex. Pilot and flight operations are supported by the on-site fixed-base operator, Northern Air, which provides services including flight training, fuel and aircraft parking.

Because Murray Field has no scheduled airline check-in or central passenger facilities, most travelers continue to Eureka and nearby destinations such as Arcata, Fortuna and the Redwood National and State Parks by car, taxi or pre-arranged transfer. Commercial airline service is available at California Redwood Coast-Humboldt County Airport, roughly ten nautical miles to the north.
