About Muir Army Airfield

Muir Army Airfield is a military airfield at Fort Indiantown Gap, near Annville in south-central Pennsylvania. It supports U.S. Army National Guard aviation operations and is home to the Eastern Army National Guard Aviation Training Site and the 28th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade.

Established as an airstrip in the 1930s, the airfield is named in honor of Major General Charles H. Muir, who commanded the 28th Division during World War I. The installation has long served as a training and mobilization base for the Pennsylvania National Guard.

The airfield lies roughly 24 nautical miles (44 kilometers) northeast of central Harrisburg, with road access to Annville, Lebanon, Hershey and the wider Lebanon Valley. It operates a single asphalt runway, designated 7/25, for military and National Guard flight operations rather than scheduled commercial passenger service.

Because MUI has no public commercial terminal, civilian travelers typically use nearby Harrisburg International Airport for airline connections. Private transfers, rental cars and group transportation can still be arranged for travel between Fort Indiantown Gap and Harrisburg, Lebanon, Hershey and other destinations in the region.
