About Mountain Home Air Force Base

Mountain Home Air Force Base is a United States Air Force installation in Elmore County, southwestern Idaho. Established during World War II and reactivated as a permanent Air Force base in 1948, it has supported training, reconnaissance, bomber, tanker, and fighter operations over the years.

The base is home to the 366th Fighter Wing and primarily serves military aviation rather than scheduled commercial passenger flights. Its main runway, Runway 12/30, is approximately 13,500 feet long and supports fighter and support aircraft operations.

Located about 10 miles southwest of the city of Mountain Home and roughly 50 miles southeast of Boise, the base is reached via State Highway 67, which connects with Interstate 84. This road network links the installation to Mountain Home, Boise, and other communities across the region.

Because Mountain Home Air Force Base is an active military installation, airfield access is restricted and aircraft operations require prior permission. Travelers in the area generally use Boise Airport (BOI) for commercial flights, then continue by road to Mountain Home and surrounding destinations.
