The airfield's origins date to 1929, when plans for an airport on the Columbia Meadowlands were announced, and the facility opened in the early 1930s. Over the decades it grew into a busy executive aviation hub, earning a reputation as a 'VIP stop' for corporate aircraft by the mid-1960s.
Located about three miles east of downtown Morristown and roughly 27 miles west of Manhattan, MMU offers two asphalt runways and an air traffic control tower. Its position near Route 24 provides road access to northern New Jersey, Newark and New York City.
