About Montréal–Mirabel International Airport
Montréal–Mirabel International Airport is a major cargo and aerospace airport serving the Greater Montreal region. Opened in October 1975 in time for the 1976 Summer Olympics, it was originally planned as Montreal's main international gateway before the focus of passenger traffic later shifted to Montréal-Trudeau Airport.
Located about 55 km northwest of downtown Montreal in the city of Mirabel, Quebec, the airport occupies an exceptionally large site and once handled scheduled passenger flights alongside cargo operations. Passenger services ended in 2004, and the former passenger terminal was later demolished, leaving the airport focused on air freight, logistics and the aerospace industry.
Today, YMX functions as an all-cargo and aerospace hub known as the YMX International Aerocity of Mirabel, supporting courier and cargo carriers as well as aerospace, maintenance and innovation companies.
The airport is connected to the Montreal area primarily by road via Autoroute 15, making it accessible for cargo transport, business travel and onward journeys across the region.
