About Mojave Air & Space Port

Mojave Air & Space Port is a public general aviation airport and FAA-licensed horizontal launch spaceport serving the town of Mojave and California's high desert. It is best known as a civilian flight test center and as the home of Burt Rutan's Voyager and Scaled Composites' SpaceShipOne, alongside dozens of aerospace, aviation and light-industrial tenants.

The airport opened in 1935 as a small dirt-strip airfield serving local mining. After use as a Marine Corps auxiliary air station during World War II and the Korean War, it was deeded to the county in 1961 and developed into a center for private aerospace testing. The airport was renamed Mojave Air and Space Port in 2013, and Rutan Field was added to the name in 2022.

Situated about 90 miles north of Los Angeles and one mile east of the town of Mojave, the airport operates three paved runways, including a 12,503-foot main runway. Passenger facilities are modest and centered on an administration building with a pilot's lounge and the Voyager Restaurant, plus Legacy Park aircraft displays, transient aircraft parking and the Stuart O. Witt Event Center.

Because MHV has no scheduled commercial airline service, most travelers arrive by private aircraft, charter or road via State Route 58 and State Route 14. Car rental, private transfers and pre-arranged ground transportation are the main ways to continue to Los Angeles, Lancaster, Palmdale, Edwards Air Force Base and other Antelope Valley destinations.
