Moi International Airport (MBA)

Moi International Airport is the main international airport serving Mombasa and the wider Kenyan coast. It connects the region with domestic destinations, neighboring African countries, Middle Eastern hubs, and seasonal European charter routes, making it a key entry point for both leisure and business travel.

The airport traces its origins to a small airstrip built during the Second World War and was later expanded into an international airport in 1979. A second passenger terminal was added between 1994 and 1996 to accommodate growing traffic. Today, Terminal 1 mainly serves international flights, while Terminal 2 handles most domestic operations.

Located roughly 9 to 10 kilometres west of central Mombasa, the airport is reached by taxi, ride-hailing services, hotel transfers, car rental, and local road links. Journeys to the city centre typically take around 20 to 40 minutes depending on traffic, and onward travel to North Coast and South Coast resorts is available from the arrivals area.

With passenger lounges, shops, dining options, currency exchange, and other traveler services, the airport provides a practical gateway for visitors arriving to explore Mombasa, Diani Beach, and Kenya's coastal destinations.
