About Minto Al Wright Airport
Minto Al Wright Airport is a state-owned public-use airport serving the small community of Minto in the Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area of Interior Alaska. Formerly known as Minto Airport, the facility was renamed in August 2009 to honor Al Wright, an Alaska aviation pioneer and founder of Wright Air Service.
Located about one mile (2 km) east of Minto village, the airport operates a single gravel runway, designated 2/20 and measuring approximately 3,400 by 75 feet (1,036 by 23 m), at an elevation of roughly 500 feet (152 m). It handles small aircraft and charter traffic and has no control tower; operations are visual, with no published instrument procedures.
The airport connects Minto with Fairbanks, located about 50 miles (80 km) to the southeast, through scheduled Essential Air Service flights operated by small commuter aircraft. Minto is also reachable by road via the Elliott Highway, although the journey from Fairbanks takes considerably longer than flying.
Facilities at the airport are limited and suited to a small rural community. Travelers should plan ahead, as there are no restaurants, shops, lounges, or fuel services on site.
