About Minot Air Force Base Airport

Minot Air Force Base Airport is the military airfield serving Minot Air Force Base, a U.S. Air Force installation in Ward County, North Dakota. The base opened in February 1957 and today is home to the 5th Bomb Wing, operating B-52H Stratofortress aircraft, and the 91st Missile Wing, which maintains Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Located about 13 miles (21 km) north of the city of Minot along U.S. Highway 83, the airfield supports strategic deterrence and global strike missions rather than scheduled commercial passenger service. The airfield has a single long runway, designated 12/30, and access is limited to authorized military and approved traffic.

Because it is a military installation, the airfield does not offer public passenger terminals, airline check-in or commercial facilities. Travelers visiting Minot generally use Minot International Airport (MOT), about 10 miles to the south, while the Minot Air Force Base airfield serves operational and official military traffic.

Road access between the base and Minot is provided by U.S. Highway 83, with private vehicles, taxis and arranged transportation available in the Minot area. The airfield remains an important part of the region's military infrastructure and supports the broader community around north-central North Dakota.
