About Mid-State Regional Airport

Mid-State Regional Airport is a public general aviation airport serving Philipsburg and Centre County in central Pennsylvania. Originally built as Black Moshannon Airport just before the Second World War and operational by 1942, it was renamed Mid-State Airport in 1962 and is now owned by the Mid-State Regional Airport Authority. The airport no longer has scheduled airline service and primarily supports private, business and recreational flying.

Located in Rush Township, about 8 miles east of Philipsburg, the airport sits between Black Moshannon State Park and Moshannon State Forest. It has two asphalt runways, 16/34 at 5,711 feet and 6/24 at 5,006 feet, and operates without a control tower. Its position makes it useful for general aviation traffic, glider operations, flight training and occasional support aircraft such as forestry firefighting planes.

The airport lies roughly 20 miles from State College and Pennsylvania State University, and it provides road access to the surrounding region via U.S. Route 322 about 5 miles away and Interstate 80 about 10 miles away. These connections make it a practical entry point for visitors travelling to Philipsburg, State College and nearby state park and forest land.

While facilities are modest, Mid-State Regional Airport serves as a local aviation gateway for Centre County, offering tiedown parking, weather information and a base for flight instruction and soaring activity.
