Miangas Airport is a small domestic airport on Miangas Island, the northernmost island in Indonesian territory and part of the Talaud Islands Regency in North Sulawesi. Construction began in 2012, and regular commercial service started in March 2017, giving this remote border island a much faster connection to the rest of the province.
The airport has a single asphalt runway of 1,400 by 30 metres and a compact terminal building, and it can handle aircraft such as the ATR-72. Regional flights link Miangas with Melonguane, the Talaud Islands capital, and Manado, the provincial capital of North Sulawesi, typically with a stop along the route.
Miangas lies closer to the Philippines than to major Indonesian centres: the island is around 48 nautical miles from the Philippines, about 129 nautical miles from Melonguane and roughly 227 nautical miles from Manado. Because sea crossings can take many hours, air travel has become the most practical way to reach the island.
Facilities at the airport are modest, with a small terminal, basic waiting areas and limited food and retail services. The village of Miangas sits next to the airport, so arrivals can quickly continue to local homes, offices and the island harbour.
