About Mesa Del Rey Airport
Mesa Del Rey Airport is a public general aviation airport serving King City and southern Monterey County in California's Salinas Valley. It is owned and operated by the City of King City and supports private, agricultural and recreational flying in the region.
The airport opened in April 1940 as King City Airport and was used during World War II for military pilot training before being returned to the city after the war. Today it has a single asphalt runway, Runway 11/29, measuring approximately 4,480 by 100 feet.
Located roughly one mile northeast of central King City, the airport is reached from U.S. Route 101 and offers quick access to the town and the wider Salinas Valley. It has no scheduled commercial passenger service and functions mainly for general aviation.
Facilities include 24-hour 100LL fuel, tiedowns, hangars, a pilot lounge and public restrooms. For onward travel, drivers can reach King City in a few minutes and continue to Monterey, Paso Robles and other Central Coast destinations via Highway 101.
