About Memphis International Airport

Memphis International Airport is the primary commercial airport serving Memphis, Tennessee, and the wider Mid-South region. Opened in 1929 as Memphis Municipal Airport, it became Memphis International Airport in 1969 and was renamed Frederick W. Smith International Airport in 2026 in honor of the FedEx founder.

Located about 7 miles (11 km) southeast of downtown Memphis, the airport handles domestic and international passenger flights and is home to the FedEx Express global SuperHub, one of the world's busiest cargo operations. Passenger services use a single terminal building with three landside check-in halls, A, B and C, and a modernized Concourse B that opened in 2022.

The airport is reached by car via Interstate 240, taxis, rideshares, rental cars, and Memphis Area Transit Authority buses; there is no direct rail link to the terminal. Downtown Memphis, Beale Street, and Graceland are typically within a 15–20 minute drive.

With its compact single-concourse layout, short walking distances, restaurants, shops, the Delta Sky Club, free Wi-Fi, and accessibility services, MEM offers a straightforward gateway for travelers visiting Memphis and the surrounding region.
