The airport is located about 3 nautical miles (6 km) southeast of downtown Athens, Tennessee. It has a single asphalt runway, Runway 2/20, measuring 6,450 by 100 feet, along with a terminal, parallel taxiway, apron, fuel system, and T-hangars. The facility has been improved over time and has been recognized as one of Tennessee's most improved airports.
On-site services are provided by the fixed-base operator Athens Air, including aviation fuel, aircraft parking, hangar space, flight training, and a passenger terminal with a pilot lounge. The Swift Museum, located on the airport field, hosts an annual convention for the Swift aircraft each Memorial Day weekend.
