About McGuire Air Force Base
McGuire Air Force Base, also known as McGuire Field, is a U.S. Air Force airfield within Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Wrightstown, New Jersey. It serves as a major Air Mobility Command hub for military airlift, aerial refueling, and AMC passenger flights.
The airfield opened in 1941 as Fort Dix Army Airfield and was renamed in 1948 in honor of Major Thomas Buchanan McGuire Jr., a World War II fighter ace. In 2009, it became part of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, combining Air Force, Army, and Navy installations into a single base.
Located about 18 miles southeast of Trenton, the base is reachable by private vehicle, taxi or rideshare, and pre-arranged transfers; public transit access is limited, with the nearest regional rail stations in Trenton and Hamilton. Passenger operations are concentrated in the AMC Passenger Terminal.
Because it is an active military installation, access is restricted to service members, their families, and other authorized personnel. Eligible travelers can use AMC flights, including Space-Available travel, with basic terminal facilities such as a USO lounge, snack options, Wi-Fi, and charging points.
