About Mathilda Batlayeri Airport
Mathilda Batlayeri Airport is the main airport serving Saumlaki and the Tanimbar Islands Regency in Maluku, Indonesia. Opened in May 2014, it was named after Mathilda J. Batlayeri and replaced the older Olilit Airport as the primary gateway to the islands.
The airport has a single passenger terminal of about 1,440 m² and an asphalt runway of approximately 2,300 metres. It mainly handles regional domestic flights, including services between Saumlaki and Ambon, and is able to accommodate aircraft such as the ATR 72.
Located around 15 km north of the Saumlaki town centre in Tumbur Village, Wer Tamrian District, the airport is reached by road using taxis, private transfers, rental cars or local transport.
As the main air link for the Tanimbar Islands, the airport supports local mobility, business travel and tourism, making Saumlaki and the surrounding region considerably easier to reach than by sea alone.
