Maripasoula Airport (MPY)

Maripasoula Airport is a small regional aerodrome serving Maripasoula, a commune in the interior of French Guiana near the Lawa River, which forms part of the border with Suriname. Because the town has no road connection to the coast, the airport plays an essential role for residents, supplies, and visitors travelling into the upper Maroni region.

Located about 3.5 km north of the town centre, the airport has a single concrete runway (07/25) and a compact passenger building. It mainly handles domestic flights linking Maripasoula with Cayenne, Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, Grand Santi, and Saül, with the flight to Cayenne typically taking around 55 minutes.

Ground access around the airport is simple: the terminal sits on the road connecting Maripasoula with nearby settlements, and travelers generally arrange local vehicle transfers. For longer journeys, the alternatives are air services to other parts of French Guiana or river travel along the Maroni.

Although facilities are basic, the airport provides a practical and important gateway for reaching one of French Guiana's most remote communes and the surrounding Amazonian interior.
