Camopi Airport (OYC)

Camopi Airport is a small public airfield serving the village of Camopi in the interior of French Guiana. Situated on the Oyapock River at the confluence with the Camopi River, close to the Brazilian border, it provides the main air link between this remote commune and the rest of the region.

The airfield was opened to public air traffic in January 2021 after the runway was paved and a passenger terminal was built. It has a single paved runway of about 1,000 metres, suitable for light aircraft, and handles domestic services, mainly to and from Cayenne.

Because Camopi is accessible only by air or river, the airport plays an essential role for residents, healthcare transfers and visitors travelling into the Upper Oyapock area. The village lies immediately next to the airfield, and onward movement within the commune is mostly by foot, local vehicle or pirogue along the rivers.

The compact terminal keeps travel simple, with basic passenger facilities and direct access to the village. Flights connect Camopi with Cayenne in roughly 40 to 45 minutes, making the airport a practical gateway to this remote Amazonian commune.
