About Marfa Municipal Airport

Marfa Municipal Airport (MRF) is a public-use general aviation airfield located about three miles north of Marfa in Presidio County, West Texas. Activated in 1947 and owned by Presidio County, it serves private aircraft, charter flights and glider operations rather than scheduled commercial airlines.

The airport sits at an elevation of roughly 4,848 feet and has three runways, including a 6,203-foot asphalt runway used for most arrivals and departures. It is an important access point for visitors traveling to Marfa's art institutions, such as the Chinati Foundation, and to nearby communities including Alpine and Fort Davis.

Marfa Municipal Airport has no control tower or scheduled airline service. Pilots self-announce on the common traffic advisory frequency, and ground transportation must be arranged in advance because the airport has no taxi, rideshare or public transit service. Rental cars, private transfers and chauffeur services can be prearranged for the short drive into Marfa or longer journeys around the region.

With self-serve aviation fuel available around the clock, tiedowns, and a modest general aviation terminal, the airport supports general aviation, soaring and private travel into this remote and distinctive part of West Texas.
