About Marana Regional Airport
Marana Regional Airport is a general aviation airport owned and operated by the Town of Marana in Pima County, Arizona. It serves Marana, northwest Tucson and the surrounding region and functions as a general aviation reliever airport for Tucson International Airport.
Located about 24 km (15 miles) northwest of central Tucson, the airport sits off Avra Valley Road roughly 5 miles west of Interstate 10. It operates as a non-towered facility with two asphalt runways and supports private, charter, flight training and corporate aviation activity.
Opened in 1943 as Marana Auxiliary Army Airfield, the airfield later became Avra Valley Airport. The Town of Marana purchased it in 1999, renamed it Marana Northwest Regional Airport, and adopted the current name in 2002.
Because it is not a commercial airline terminal, most passengers arrive or depart through fixed-base operators and charter services, then continue by car, taxi or pre-arranged transfer to Marana, Tucson, Oro Valley and other nearby communities.
