About Maota Airport
Maota Airport is the main domestic airport on Savai'i, the largest island in Samoa. It serves Salelologa, the island's main township and ferry port, and provides the primary air link between Savai'i and Upolu.
The airport has been in operation since the early 1990s. Its runway was tar-sealed in 1994, and the airport was declared a customs port of entry in 1997. After domestic services were suspended for a period, the airport was refurbished in late 2020 and Samoa Airways resumed scheduled domestic flights later that year.
Located about 2 km south of Salelologa township and the ferry terminal, Maota Airport sits at the east end of Savai'i. The single open fale terminal and short asphalt runway are suited to small passenger aircraft such as the Twin Otter, with operations limited to daylight hours.
Travelers can continue from the airport by taxi or pre-arranged transfer to Salelologa, the ferry terminal, and resorts and villages across Savai'i.
