About Fagali'i Airport
Fagali'i Airport is a small international airport serving Apia and the island of Upolu in Samoa. It is located in the village of Fagali'i, only a few kilometres from central Apia, and functions as a convenient gateway for services between Samoa and Pago Pago in American Samoa, operated by Samoa Airways.
The airport was originally constructed in 1969, with its first commercial flights starting in April 1970. It was closed in January 2005, reopened by Polynesian Airlines in July 2009, shut down again at the end of December 2019, and officially reopened in May 2023 following a programme of rehabilitation.
Fagali'i Airport has a single compact passenger terminal and a short runway, which supports a straightforward arrival and departure process. Its position close to the city centre means travellers can reach hotels, business areas and government offices in central Apia within minutes.
Taxis and local buses serve the terminal, and private transfers and rental cars offer additional options for continuing to destinations across Upolu. Plans have also been announced to extend the runway so the airport can serve more Pacific destinations in the future.
