About Faleolo International Airport
Faleolo International Airport is the main international airport serving Samoa and the country's primary gateway for visitors arriving from Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Hawaii and American Samoa. Originally constructed in 1942, the airport sits on the north-western coast of Upolu island, about 40 km west of the capital, Apia.
The airport has been modernised in stages over the years, including runway extensions and terminal upgrades. A new international terminal building opened in 2018, aerobridges began operating in 2019, and a dedicated regional terminal opened in 2024 to serve regional and domestic flights, including connections to American Samoa, Fiji, Tonga and other Pacific destinations.
Faleolo is connected to Apia and the rest of Upolu by road, with taxis, hotel and resort transfers, car rentals and public buses available from the airport area. There is no rail service, and the nearby ferry terminal at Mulifanua provides onward links to the island of Savai'i.
With passenger facilities including a VIP lounge, cafés, duty-free and gift shops, currency exchange and car rental desks, the airport functions as a compact and practical entry point for travellers exploring Samoa.
