Manchester Airport is the main international airport serving Manchester and the wider North West of England. Located at Ringway, about 9 miles (14 km) south of Manchester city centre, it is the busiest airport in the UK outside London and a key gateway for domestic, European and long-haul travel.
Originally opened in 1938 as Ringway Airport, the airport has grown into a modern two-terminal operation. Terminal 2 now handles the majority of flights and passengers, while Terminal 3 is dedicated to Ryanair; the former Terminal 1 closed after the completion of the airport's long-term transformation programme.
The airport is directly linked to Manchester by rail, with regular train services to Manchester Piccadilly, as well as buses, coaches, taxis, private transfers and car rental. It sits next to the M56 with connections to the M6, M60 and M62, making onward travel across the North West straightforward.
