About Maloelap Airport
Maloelap Airport is a small public-use airfield serving Taroa Island and the wider Maloelap Atoll in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. It mainly supports domestic air travel, with scheduled Air Marshall Islands flights linking the atoll to Majuro, the capital and principal transport hub.
Located on Taroa Island roughly 180 km north of Majuro, the airport lies close to Taroa village. It has a single grass runway of about 1,127 m, and operations are simple: there is no conventional passenger terminal, runway lighting, or air traffic control.
The site also has historical importance as the former Taroa Airfield, a Japanese air base developed during the Second World War. Remnants of that wartime infrastructure remain on the island and can still be visited today.
Because Maloelap is a remote outer island, onward travel options are limited. Most visitors arrive on the roughly 35-minute scheduled flight from Majuro, then continue on foot, by local vehicle, or by boat to other parts of the atoll.
