About Malmstrom Air Force Base Heliport
Located about three miles east of Great Falls, Malmstrom Air Force Base Heliport (GFA) is a military helicopter facility serving Malmstrom Air Force Base in Cascade County, Montana. It is not a commercial airport; its role is to support U.S. Air Force helicopter operations at the base.
The facility was activated in March 1943 and remains part of the base's controlled military infrastructure. Operations take place from two 100-by-100-foot helipads—one asphalt and one concrete—with no public passenger terminal, check-in area or control tower.
Access to GFA is restricted, and aircraft require prior permission and coordination with base operations. Commercial air travel for Great Falls and the surrounding region is handled by Great Falls International Airport (GTF), located several miles to the southwest.
Because of its position east of Great Falls, the base is reached by road, and onward travel can be arranged by car, taxi, private transfer or group transport into Great Falls and other Montana destinations. The area follows Mountain Time.
