Maewo-Naone Airport (MWF)

Maewo-Naone Airport is the only airfield serving Maewo Island, a rural island in Vanuatu's Penama Province. The airport links Maewo with the country's domestic network through scheduled Air Vanuatu flights to Santo Pekoa International Airport in Luganville, the main transport hub for the northern islands.

The airfield sits near the village of Naone on Maewo's northwest coast at an elevation of about 146 metres. It has a single grass runway of roughly 850 metres and a simple passenger handling area, reflecting its role as a small domestic facility rather than a large terminal complex.

Maewo has no city; the island's largest settlement is Betarara, about 11 kilometres south of the airstrip, and most villages lie along the narrow western coastal strip. Travelers typically continue by pre-arranged 4WD, local pickup truck or boat along the coastal road to guesthouses and villages.

Because services are limited and weather can affect the grass runway, visitors should confirm flights and arrange onward transport before arrival. The airport provides a vital connection for residents, supplies and visitors traveling between Maewo and the rest of Vanuatu.
