About Madras Municipal Airport
Madras Municipal Airport is a public-use general aviation airport serving Madras, the county seat of Jefferson County in Central Oregon. Established in the late 1930s, the airport became the Madras Army Air Field in 1942 and served as a World War II training base for B-17 Flying Fortress and Bell P-63 Kingcobra squadrons.
Located about three nautical miles northwest of central Madras, the airport provides a base for private, corporate, agricultural, and firefighting aviation, including Erickson Aero Tanker support for wildland fire suppression. It can accommodate a range of general aviation aircraft up to large corporate jets and heavy C-130 aircraft.
The airport is organized around a single general aviation terminal building, which also serves as a flight base operations and community meeting space. Facilities include a 24/7 pilot lounge, aviation fuel, hangar and tiedown parking, rental and courtesy cars, and the Erickson Aircraft Collection on the field.
Madras Municipal Airport is connected to the city by road and is convenient for onward travel across Central Oregon. For scheduled airline flights, Redmond Municipal Airport lies a short drive to the south.
