About Mackinac Island Airport
Located about one nautical mile northwest of downtown Mackinac Island, Mackinac Island Airport is a public-use general aviation airport serving Mackinac Island and the surrounding Straits of Mackinac region in Michigan. The airport is owned and operated by the Mackinac Island State Parks Commission and remains open year-round for private and charter aircraft.
The airport features a single 3,500-foot lighted runway and a small terminal used by general aviation traffic, charter flights and winter air-taxi services. Because motor vehicles are prohibited on Mackinac Island, the airport is an important link for residents, workers, tourists and supplies, particularly in winter when ferry service can pause due to ice.
The compact terminal includes lobby seating, restrooms, Wi-Fi, vending machines, a pilot lounge and an AWOS weather monitor. There is no FBO or fuel service at the airport, and commercial airlines do not land on the island; nearby mainland alternatives include Pellston Regional, Chippewa County International and Cherry Capital airports.
From the airport, downtown shops, restaurants and lodging along Main Street are about 1.8 miles to the south. Travelers continue on foot, by bicycle or by horse-drawn taxi, making the airport a convenient entry point for visiting Grand Hotel, Fort Mackinac and the rest of the island.
