About Lynchburg Regional Airport - Preston Glenn Field
Lynchburg Regional Airport, also known as Preston Glenn Field, is the main airport serving Lynchburg and the surrounding Central Virginia region. Opened in 1931 and originally named Preston Glenn Airport in honor of Lt. Preston Glenn, the airport is owned by the City of Lynchburg and sits at the intersection of Route 29 South and Route 460, about 6 miles southwest of downtown.
The airport provides nonstop domestic connections through American Airlines to Charlotte and, since March 2026, through United Express to Washington Dulles and Chicago O'Hare. It serves both leisure and business travelers, while also supporting general aviation and Liberty University's flight training operations.
Passenger services are handled in a single two-level terminal with check-in, security and gates on the upper level and baggage claim and ground transportation on the lower level. The airport is reached by car, taxi, rideshare, the GLTC bus network, rental cars and private transfers.
The compact terminal offers free Wi-Fi, vending machines, a water filling station, restrooms, nursing rooms and a family restroom, making it a convenient, low-stress gateway for the Blue Ridge foothills region.
