About Lydd Airport
Lydd Airport is a small aviation gateway located on the Dungeness Peninsula in Kent, near the town of Lydd and about 17 miles from Ashford International. Opened in 1954 as Ferryfield, it has also been known historically as London Ashford Airport and remains the closest UK airport to France, around 24 nautical miles across the Channel. The airport serves general and private aviation, with scheduled passenger services having ended in 2018. Its single terminal brings check-in, security, departures and arrivals together in one compact building, making it straightforward for private flights, charters and visiting aircraft. For onward travel, taxis and pre-booked transfers operate from the terminal, Stagecoach route 102 stops near the airport entrance on the A259, and car rental can be delivered to the terminal. Ashford International provides high-speed rail connections to London St Pancras in around 38 minutes, with Rye, Camber Sands, Dungeness and the Romney Marsh coast all within easy reach.
