About Loring International Airport

Loring International Airport is the operational name of the airfield at the former Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine. Opened for civil use in 1997, it is managed by the Loring Development Authority and serves as a general aviation and industrial aviation facility within the Loring Commerce Centre.

Located about three miles northwest of Limestone and roughly 17–20 miles northeast of Presque Isle, the airport provides a gateway to Aroostook County, northern Maine, and nearby Canadian border areas. It does not currently offer scheduled commercial passenger service; the nearest scheduled passenger airport is Presque Isle International Airport (PQI).

The airfield features a single main runway, 1/19, measuring 12,101 by 300 feet, one of the longest runways in the region and capable of handling very large aircraft. Operations are generally conducted under visual flight rules during daylight hours, and prior permission is required for landing because the airport is private-use and unattended.

Road access to Limestone, Presque Isle, Caribou and other northern Maine communities is via local highways, with pre-arranged taxis, private transfers and rental vehicles being the practical onward travel options. Facilities are modest, including a general aviation terminal with pilot amenities, hangars and space for cargo, maintenance and aerospace activities.
