About Long Lellang Airport
Long Lellang Airport is a small rural STOLport serving the village of Long Lellang and the Kelabit and Penan communities of interior Sarawak. Opened in the early 1970s, it gave this remote settlement a much faster link to the outside world, replacing multi-day journeys on foot through difficult terrain.
The airport is operated by Malaysia Airports and sits immediately beside the village, with a single basic terminal handling arrivals and departures. Rural air services operated by AirBorneo connect Long Lellang with Miri, Marudi and Bario using small Twin Otter aircraft, with strict passenger and baggage weight limits.
Because of its location in the Sarawak interior, the airport has very basic facilities, including a simple naturally ventilated waiting area, and no shops, restaurants, lounges or ATMs. Travelers are advised to bring their own refreshments, cash and essentials.
By road, Long Lellang is roughly 310 km and about seven hours from Miri, while the flight takes about 45 minutes, making air travel the main practical connection. Ground access to the village is on foot, with longboat services available for some surrounding destinations.
